P7211619 - My 1992 80-series landcruiser coming to the rescue of my 1981 Saab 900 sedan
My Saab suffered an alternator failure right when I pulled into the carpark at work in Newcastle (90 km away from here) at 1 am in the morning. I had no choice but to drive the car home using purely battery power to keep the ignition electronics running. There's no ECU and even though it was cold and wet I turned everything else off including the wipers and the cabin fan, to conserve charge in the battery.
The car made it to just a little way past here and gave up on a very short steep bit of the off-road track leading to where I live - only about 700 metres away from the house! Only problem was it was raining a lot (as you can see) so I had to walk up the rest of the track to the house,. get some rain gear on, and drive the landcruiser back down to charge up the battery enough to re-start the car and drive it up to the house.
Good thing I had brought the landcruiser back up from Sydney otherwise I'd have had to leave me car where it was and try to find someone in the local area with a jump-starter!
